Men's Health Services Explained

What is Preventative Testing for Chronic Diseases?

Our Primary Care Doctors in San Diego have seen chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease frequently occur in men. These chronic diseases can be easily treated with education and lifestyle changes if caught early. You should see your Primary Care Doctor in San Diego once a year to receive proper screening for these diseases. Screening can often be performed by routine blood work. If you are currently being treated for chronic disease, our primary care doctors can discuss the treatment options now available to you.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Many men experience an inability to sustain an erection to participate in sexual intercourse. Erectile dysfunction can occur at any age but is most common in men 65 and older with diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. This can be an emotionally distressing occurrence for any man, but our Primary Care Doctors in San Diego can help you navigate the best treatment options for your personal needs.

Low Testosterone

Testosterone is a hormone found in both men and women that comes from the adrenal gland. Testosterone is an essential hormone that regulates muscle mass, strength, and fat distribution and contributes to a man’s sex drive and blood circulation.

Men with low testosterone may experience the following symptoms

  • Decreased sex drive
  • Hair loss
  • Fatigue
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • A decrease in bone and muscle mass
  • Mood swings

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, your Primary Care Doctor in San Diego will be able to help you determine if you have low testosterone and provide you with treatment options to maintain healthy testosterone levels.

STD Screening

Being knowledgeable about your sexual wellness is crucial. Our Primary Care Doctors in San Diego can assist you wherever you are in your sexual wellness journey.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are diseases or infections spread from person to person through sexual contact (vaginal, rectal, or oral) and bodily fluids such as blood or semen.

Some common STDs include:

  • Gonorrhea
  • Chlamydia
  • Genital Herpes
  • HPV
  • Syphilis
  • HIV
  • Hepatitis

You may have a higher risk of contracting an STD if you engage in unprotected sex, have multiple sexual partners, abuse drugs and alcohol, share needles, or are already infected with an STD. Periodic STD testing is recommended for anyone with these risk factors.

Symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases can vary and can often have no symptoms. Potential symptoms can include vaginal or penile discharge, painful intercourse, painful urination, blisters or sores on the genitals, warts on the genitals, or abdominal pain. If left untreated, STDs can cause infertility and some cancers.

A sexually transmitted disease can be diagnosed by your Primary Care Doctor in San Diego or our Urgent Care in San Diego after a physical exam and some testing. Testing may include a swab or culture of the genitals or a urine or blood test.

What are Prostate Health Screenings?

The prostate is a gland that sits just below the bladder. It secretes fluids that participate in semen production. Common health complications men can experience involving the prostate include an enlarged prostate, prostate cancer, and prostatitis.
