Jamillah Pargo-Thompson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist with over 14 years of Clinical and Medical Social Work, and Human Services experience managing complex psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. Jamillah finished at the top of her class when she received a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 2014.
Jamillah has extensive clinical experience treating mild to chronic mental health cases, with a focus on depression, anxiety, self-esteem challenges, isolating from loved ones, relationship discord, health crisis, midlife crisis, and patients who are struggling to move forward in life. Jamillah’s approach includes utilizing the most current and effective evidence based clinical modalities, incorporating individualized treatment plans, and employing crisis stabilization risk assessment tools to assess and contract for safety.
Jamillah has enjoyed her role in empowering, instilling hope, advocating for, and educating patients and their families about mental illness and the stigmas attached. She has helped patients rediscover joy and find purpose while transitioning through critical life stages. Many of Jamillah’s current patients have been under her care for several years. Working with diverse populations has provided Jamillah discernment in the context of cultural competency and cultural stigmas surrounding mental health, and the associated challenges. Jamillah appreciates the values, beliefs, differences, and practices of other cultures.
When not working, Jamillah enjoys being an empty nester, but loves spending time with her 21-year-old son, visiting her mother who lives in the city, or her two older brothers, younger sister, seven nieces, and eight nephews who are all San Diego natives!
